Functional ultrasound imaging of the brain

Conférence scientifique organisée par Mickael Tanter, Institut Langevin Paris

Brain disorders have become a major public health challenge affecting a wide range of the population, with nearly 30 million people worldwide suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and 1 out of 70 children diagnosed with autism. An increased effort in both fundamental and clinical research is required to better understand the brain functions and its alteration in pathologies and to improve the patients’ management. Good knowledge of the brain functions have been provided over the past decades using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), but some areas of brain science remain unexplored as these techniques are cumbersome, expensive, and are limited in terms of spatio-temporal resolution.
